Thank You for Quoting Martin Luther King Jr., Friend

It must be popular to put inspirational quotes in the signature of emails these days. I notice a lot of people who send me mail have some sort of quote under their name...like it adds to their personality...or personalizes the email...like somehow the person they are quoting is an extension of them or vice-versa.

In particular, Martin Luther King Jr. is quoted a lot. In fact, a lot of my Non-Christian, Pluralist, Universalist, and 'the-power-of-the-universe-is-in-you' friends include MLK quotes under their names in their email signature.

Do they know who they are quoting?

My friends who would rather, say, have their fingernails pulled out than acknowledge that there is one God, Jesus, let alone talk about him? Do they know MLK is one of the, if not THE, most influential Christian's of modern history? I wonder if they know the wisdom MLK dispensed in his life was an iteration of the teaching of the God he LOVED and FOLLOWED ardently: Jesus. And so do they know with clarity and intention that by propagating the narrative of MLK, they are, in fact and by proxy, dispensers of Christ's teachings.

So friends, here's an MLK quote for your email signature...you know, when you are ready to admit who you are REALLY & TRULY inspired by:

"Oh God, help us in our lives and in all of our attitudes, to work out this controlling force of love, this controlling power that can solve every problem that we confront in all areas. Oh, we talk about politics; we talk about the problems facing our atomic civilization. Grant that all men will come together and discover that as we solve the crisis and solve these problems—the international problems, the problems of atomic energy, the problems of nuclear energy, and yes, even the race problem—let us join together in a great fellowship of love and bow down at the feet of Jesus. Give us this strong determination. In the name and spirit of this Christ, we pray. Amen." Dr. (of Theology) Martin Luther King Jr.
